LX3 - TIP "GET CLOSE"

Note: With the upcoming LX3 photo contest "Shallow depth of field" I decided to post a tip on how to use the LX3 with a creative approach. If you like the post and feel that it inspires you I will be posting other techniques in the the future.

1 Select A mode (aperture priority mode) and use F2 - F2.8

2 Set your focus to MF (manual) compose your shot and adjust your focus.
(You can also choose a focus point and adjust the LX3's position to get
the desired local sharpness
)

The closest you can get with the LX3 is 1cm at 24mm. The more you zoom the less you'll be able to focus close. Experiment these variables until you're satisfied of the result. Adjust the ISO according to the available lighting if your shutter speed is too slow to get a crisp image.

File info: 24mm, F2, 1/100th, ISO 200, manual focus (1cm)

Coupled with the HD video you are able to catch stuff like never before. Rediscover the world by getting close to organic textures, fibers of nature, beauty design :) You can watch and donwload the 720p version at vimeo.com

Awesome work! That is truly mesmerizing and a very inspiring piece of photography.

It would be interesting to know how the close-up movements alongside the snail were done so smoothly.

Haven't needed to use a slide scanner since getting an Lx3- tripod and a lightbox- the lip on mine lets me use it vertically- and perfect slide copies as fast as you can slide the slides in place.....
