Lumix LX4? Already soon? What if? Maybe this is a great time to communicate some of the users request for the future LX3 upgrade that is going to happen anyway. Just some inspiration. I have rarely seen so much hype about a digital compact camera and I am sure we will know what is going on really soon.
In the meantime here is what I think.
So the real deal, Lumix LX4. I am dropping some (speculated) specs as well as personal requests that will hopefully match with most of the users expectations.

LX4 (reasonable & necessary upgrades):
- ISO 800 should look like the current ISO 400 (or even better)
- All film modes should be usable in any shooting mode (ex: movie)
- 1080p HD video mode (with black and white dynamic !!!)
- Improved and consistent menu
- Intervalometer function
- Less expensif and diverse accessories (remote controller, filter holder,...)
- Mechanical lens cap (if it stays with a single zoom lens)
- Longer zoom 24-105mm (if it stays with a single zoom lens)
- Better grip
- Bulb mode
- . . .
LX4 (dream ful & unreasonable specs):
- Interchangeable lenses introduced with the micro 4/3
- Integrated automated HDR function
- Polaroid , lomo, .. just some fun color modes
- Square image format (1:1)
- Built in Wifi (image transfer)
- mini USB plug
- charging via USB
- 1000 fps recording (just kidding, well the EX-FH20 does it)
- . . .

I cannot believe that Panasonic would discontinue this camera so early in its life cycle. Unless there's some kind of LX3.1 in the works. (Doubt it's a LX4.)
Your specs are sweet. Good luck with that. ;-)
The idea of interchangeable lenses is making me weak in the knees.
lx3 discontinued? damn! maybe they want to upgrade it?
I just received this email from Panasonic concerning the LX3:
Dear MR PORTER
Thank you for your inquiry regarding the Panasonic DMCLX3K. We apologize for the delay in providing you with a reply to your inquiry and we hope that this delay has not caused you any inconvenience.
We do not have any data on when the DMCLX3K will be available at retailers in the USA. As you have noted the camera is backordered and we waiting for the camera to be resupplied in the USA and at our on line store.
We do not have an ETA on the DMCLX3K in the USA.
Thank You,
Panasonic Consumer Support
What does that mean?? The manufacturer cannot (or will not??) give an estimate for resupplying this camera? The mystery builds!
I do not want a longer zoom or an auto lens cover unless they can be done while: 1) keeping the f/2-2.8 aperture 2) not increasing the size or weight of the camera itself 3) not degrading the sharpness of the lens 4) maintaining the excellent wide angle
I do not want interchangeable lenses unless it comes kitted with a lens equivalent to the current lens for the same price, and the camera lens combination doesn't get any bigger (I doubt they can do this just yet)
I would like to see (and think they can provide):
-1080p, or at least 720p using the AVCHD lite codec instead of MJPG.
- Intervalometer
-Better high ISO (always on the list, always room for improvement)
- a screw thread in the shutter for old fashioned (aka: cheap) cable releases.
-charge via usb
-high fps movie mode. Doesn't have to be 1000, 120 is a good start.
I have a feeling the back order is because they make the cameras in runs, not continuously, so they have to ramp production back up when they ran out. PMA is coming up and I understand why everyone is having these pipe dreams, but I wouldn't expect a full revamp of this product to hit the market until October or November. It would be cool that if in the new run of production they were able to make minor improvements an LX3s so to speak. Would be cool if they could fit the AVCHD lite chip in this round so they could make a minor announcement about it at PMA, but I'm not holding my breath.
Support for third party (community developed) firmware like CHKDK.
well, if it is discontinue is not that suprise, because recently the stock is extremely low in my area (seem like they unable to restock), either they want to upgrade or release a new LX (?)
so current Im not dare to buy it yet, just wait ... :(
Unbelievable: Panasonic already granted 2 of the "unreasonable" wishes in the 2.1 firmware upgrade for the LX3.
HDR mode and 1:1 square mode. Nice!
